62. Advocatus Diaboli

A man in a white rob and sandals was standing  in front of hundreds of men and women who formed a semi-circle around a small pond. He was standing on a rock in the middle of the pond. His arms were spread open and he was speaking slowly and deliberately making small hand gestures at the crowd. “Faith and belief,” he was speaking in even tones, ” are two important parts of your life. But love….love and hope are the foundation for living. You can believe in me but most importantly you  must believe in each other and love each other as brothers and sisters. For with love there is always hope and with hope there is always belief that you can do anything.”

Standing behind the three Holy Men watching and listening to this I realized this is what the one Holy Man was reaching for. He wanted to touch the LitePapr image of their savior. Just before he touched Jolie’s cape the image changed. This time it was here in Jerusalem. Even though this depiction took place centuries ago some of the terrain and structures were still the same. It was late afternoon and there were throngs of people in an open air market. Jesus was walking with a woman with two small children each holding the hand of one of the adults.  Jesus was approached by a man and stopped to great him. Jesus spoke first.

“Good afternoon, Jeremiah. I was hoping to meet up with you so I could introduce you to my wife and children.” The three Holy Men fell to their knees….mouths and eyes wide open with a look that showed both disbelief and fear. The running image on Jolie’s cape continued…”This is my wife, Abishai and my daughter Damaris and son Asaph. We were on our way to meet with some friends would you like to join us Jeremiah?”

The Holy Man who had tried to touch the LitePapr on Jolie’s cape stood up and yelled, ” Blasphemy…I tell you that never happened. This is the work of the Devil….”  The image disappeared from Jolie’s cape and her Lite began to spell out the following. “The ability to make Jesus the center of the Christian philosophy could only work if he was single. Having a family paints an entirely different picture of the man…..he would then be just like any human….and the Church could not wrap its Bible passages around that.”

The two Holy Men that were kneeling stood up. All three looked at each other and then the one who had spoken first spoke again….. “Show us  more.”
